Ash Wednesday Worship at Good Shepherd Lutheran, Callao

Lent begins Wednesday, Feb. 13.  The members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Callao invite the community to attend Ash Wednesday Worship Service, Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m.  The entire family is welcome.  The church is located at 1717 Hampton Hall Rd. in Callao.

The service will be conducted by Rev. Mike Ramming, Pastor of Good Shepherd, with the imposition of ashes offered.  Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten season, which is the 40 days prior to Easter and is a Christian time for reflection and meditation in preparation for the celebration of Easter.

“Lent is spring training for Christians,” observed Pastor Mike Ramming.  “This particular Wednesday is referred to as ‘Ash Wednesday’ because to begin the Lenten season and, in many Christian traditions, ashes are applied to the forehead of the worshipper as a sign of sorrow and repentance over sin.  The traditional liturgical color of Lent is violet, a reminder of the importance of repentance in a Christian’s life.”
