On December 11, 2012, Mrs. Emma Jones of Heathsville, Virginia accompanied her granddaughter, Tara Jones to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, residence of the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.

The White House hosts an annual gala every December to celebrate the Christmas season.  Tara, who is Vice President of Public Affairs for Black Entertainment Television (BET) extended an invitation to her grandmother.  She knew how fond her grandmother was of the president and Mrs. Obama.

While at the White House, Mrs. Jones toured many of the elegant rooms, and dined on the finest cuisine.  The greatest joy of her trip was just to be able to speak with the President.  She told him that she was from Northumberland County, Virginia.  He told her that he knows where that is located.  She commended him on a job well done.  She also told him that she prays every day for the safety of him and his family. President and Mrs. Obama embraced Mrs. Jones with a big hug and not a handshake.  They were very happy to have her visit them at their residence.

Mrs. Jones has lots of pictures to share with her family and friends when she returns to the Northern Neck.  She would like to thank her granddaughter, Tara, for being so thoughtful for inviting her.
