The fourth and final spot in the Girls’ Northern Neck District Basketball Tournament could come down to how Rappahannock and Essex finish this week.
At the end of last week, Rappahannock stood in the district with a record of 3-5 with two games left, compared to Essex with three games at 2-5.

On Jan. 29 Northumberland topped Rappahannock 56-48 and beat Essex, 49-34, the next day.
On Tuesday, it was no easy win for the Lady lndians after falling behind 14-4 and 28-26 halftime. But the Lady Indians were able to make adjustments leading to another win.
Rappahannock was led by Selene Epps with 14 points along with Lasheonia Smith with 13. Kelsey Berhalter chipped in with eight, Ashley Towles with seven, Keshawna with four and Cedara Ashton with two.
On Thursday, Essex’s Zenya Butler scored 13 points followed by Alyssa Brooks eight, Shay Nelson and Vicky Boone with six each, Kiara Williams with four and Jaelah Rivers with two.
In other games for Rappahannock, they fell to Colonial Beach, 64-40, and won over Washington & Lee 58-20.
A double-double effort by Karley Inscoe helped lead Colonial Beach to a 64-40 win over Rappahannock scoring 19 points and collecting 13 rebounds. Selene Epps led Rappahannock with 12.

Selene Epps, Lasheonia Smith and Ashley Towles all scored 10 points each in the win over W&L. Cedara Ashton chipped in with nine points followed by Keshawna Veney with six, Alontria Newton and Kelsey Berhalter with four each, Rhiannon Mulvena with three each and Lexi Hanks with two.
In games for Essex, the team fell to Lancaster and won over W&L.
In the 55-45 win over Essex, Lancaster’s Shamerah Taylor scored a team high 19 points. ZeNya Butler, of Essex, scored a game high 20 points.
Essex’s Kiara Williams chipped in with 11 for the Essex Lady Trojans followed by Vicky Boone with six, Jaelah Rivers with five and Shay Nelson with three.
ZeNya Butler scored 18 points in the 68-21 win over W&L. Jaelah Rivers added 11 points followed by Vicky Boone nine, Kiara Williams with eight, Alyssa Brooks and Shay Nelson with six each, Lindsay Saunders and Khaylah Brent with four each, and Teyanna Johnson with two.
On Feb. 12, the Northern Neck District Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament will begin at Lancaster High School. So far several teams look to be destined to make an appearance and others preparing for the possibility of missing it.
On Feb. 12, the girls tournament will begin at 6 p.m. with the second and third seeded teams facing each other and the top and fourth-seeded teams to follow.
A similar schedule will be played the next day for the boys’ teams on Feb. 13 beginning at 6 p.m.
The winners of those games will play on Feb. 15. Girls game at 6 p.m., boys at 8 p.m. Division 1 and 2 region tournaments will begin the following week.
