Indoor Track: Northumberland at Central Virginia Last Chance Invite at Ashe Center in Richmond (no report)—Northumberland’s Trinity Bea placed second place in the 1000-meter run; Northumberland’s Rashaunna Carter placed first in the 300-meter run, second in the 55-meter race.
Scholastic Bowl Region A Tournament: Lancaster and Northumberland at Colonial Beach—Northumberland and Lancaster were both eliminated from the state tournament.
Youth Wrestling: Participants from the Northern Neck Wrestling Club competed in a total of26 matches, winning 17, nine by pins against teams from Lancaster, York and Mathews. A total of 78 matches were held at Northumberland High School. On Feb. 8, the Richmond County Little League organization will start sign ups for the upcoming season at the Building behind Union First Market Bank in Warsaw from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. each day. Online registration can also be done online at www.eteamz.com/richmondcounty. The league is open to any child between the ages of 4-18 whose parents or guardians reside in the Richmond County boundaries. Parents or legal guardians must have with a current drivers license; an original or state certified copy of your child’s birth certificate (will be viewed and returned at registration); and three proofs of residency at registration. Northern Neck Wrestling Club is currently enrolling for wrestling for all Northern Neck kids grades 1-8. Training is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and the season runs through March. You can visit us during practice and register at the NNWC facility located on Dodlyt Rd. just behind the old Northumberland High School from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights. The Area 28 Special Olympics organization is in is in search of athletes to join its organization for the annual Region Basketball Tournament at Northumberland High School on Feb. 9 starting at 9 a.m. Visit Area 28 on Facebook or call 804-761-3206 if you have questions, wish to participate or volunteer.
The Westmoreland County Little League will host its annual membership meeting at A.T. Johnson in Montross on Thursday Feb. 20. Topics concerning the current state of the league will be discussed and members will be chosen to fill positions on the leadership board. We would like to encourage everyone to attend! Spring is almost here and you know what that means! Westmoreland County Little League would like to announce its registration dates for the 2013 season: February 16, March 2, and March 9. Registration will be held at A.T. Johnson gymnasium and at Colonial Beach High School. Get signed up! 2013 is going to be a great year for WCLL.
The Northumberland High School Athletic Booster Club is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2012-2013 season. This year the Boosters are offering 10 different membership options, in hopes to accommodate a wide range of students, parents and community members. On Feb. 25, the Colonial Beach PTA group will be hosting the Harlem Wizards at 7 p.m. The game will be played at the high school gymnasium.
On March 9 at 5 p.m., members of the Washington & Lee High School Athletics Department in partnership with and Westmoreland County Relay For Life Team Mission Impossible are teaming up to bring four straight basketball games featuring area standout mens’ basketball players from some of the 1970s and 1980s.
On March 16, selected seniors from local high school basketball teams will compete in the 15th annual NorLan Shrine Northern Neck-Tidewater District All-Star Games at Lancaster High School. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m. with the seniors from the Northern Neck District facing those from the Tidewater. The boys game will follow at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the night will go to the Shriners.
