Essex County: Defending champs search for win

The defending region champion Essex Boys Varsity Basketball Team continued to struggle after only a few weeks of game play this season. Last Friday, they were victims of a fifth straight loss falling to Caroline, 68-62.

Essex’s Alonzo Tompkins led the team with 14 points and five steals followed by Alex Balderson and Sterling Hammond scoring eight points each.

Earl Jones was the other Trojan to score in double figures with 10 followed by Larry Hill with six, D.J. Ashlock and Teshon Nelson with five each, and C.J. Jones and Drew Balderson with two each.

Essex fell to an overall record of 0-5 heading into district play the second week of the New Year.
