Emmet Elmer Bryant
Emmett Elmer Bryant, 73, of Tappahannock, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. He was a retired salesman, former member of both the Essex County Jaycees and the Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he served as captain for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Bryant; four daughters, Terry (Lloyd) Brooks, Debbie Wyatt, Sandy (Joe) Quinn and Sherry Pierson; eight grandchildren, April Brooks, Tripp Brizendine, Kendall Wyatt, Samantha Pierson, Daniel Wyatt, Kaitlin Quinn, Erin Quinn and Ken Pierson; two sisters, Catherine Cash and Nancy Holt.
He was predeceased by his son, Ken Bryant; parents, Emmett and Myrtle Bryant; brother, Charles Bryant; and son-in-law, Wesley Wyatt.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Marks-Bristow Funeral Home with the Rev. David Donahue officiating and assisted by Ed Robinson.
Pallbearers were Tripp Brizendine, Ken Pierson, Daniel Wyatt, Francis Brooks, Harry T. Gladding and Mike Hartenbach.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Brooks, Joe Quinn, Jonathan English, Jerry Miller and Russell Harmon.

Margaret Coles Hillier
Margaret Coles Hillier, 91, of Wicomico Church, Virginia, passed away on December 5, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis Richardson Hillier. She is survived by her five children; sons Charles Hillier, William Hillier and his wife Dianna; daughters Patricia Fogerty, Anne Rittenhouse and her husband Edward, and Nina Cox and her husband Fred; 10 grandchildren. Lemoine and David Hillier, Patrick, Nicholas, Natalie, Stephen and James Fogerty, Phoebe-Anne Rittenhouse Hollingsworth and her husband Mark, James Cox IV and his wife Jenna, and Margaret-Anne Cox; six great grandchildren, Hunter, Ashton, Stewart and Miles-Cooper Hollingsworth and Jameson and Virginia Cox and her sister Mildred L. Coles.
Margaret was past president of the Women’s Club Garden division, member of the historical society, member of George Washington’s Birthplace and a member of Wicomico Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Wicomico Episcopal Church, Wicomico Church, Virginia, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Wicomico Methodist Church Cemetery, Wicomico Church, Virginia. Faulkner Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., handled the arrangements.

William “Bill” Lucas
William “Bill” Lucas of Tappahannock, departed this life December 5, 2012 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, after a brief illness. Bill worked for the Architect of the Capitol in Washington DC as a laborer for 35 years until he retired in 2005.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Jean R. Lucas; one son, Darryl M. Lucas, Sr; two daughters, Alesia B. Shelton and Carla J. Lucas; four grandsons, Darryl M. Lucas II, Quatis T. Lucas, Shawn O. Darr and Dejon M. Lucas; one daughter-in-law, Aleta A. Lucas; one son-in-law, Michael B. Shelton; six sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; twelve nephews; ten nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, December 7 from 1-7 pm at Washington Funeral Home, 1404 Tappahannock Blvd, Tappahannock and one hour prior the funeral service at the church. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 8 at 11 am at Second Baptist Church, Warsaw, VA. Rev. Roderick H. Parks, Pastor. Rev. Ronnie Sidney, Eulogist. Interment in the church cemetery.
Robert “Bob” Moss, Sr.
Robert M. “Bob” Moss, Sr., 60, of Heathsville, formerly of Waldorf, MD, died suddenly on December 2, 2012. Mr. Moss was a retired Book Binder with the U.S. Government Printing Office, a Coast Guard Veteran, and husband of Marilyn Moss. Mr. Moss is survived by his wife; his father, Muril H. Moss; his daughters, Krista French (Jeff) and Victoria Collins (Russell); his son, Robert M. Moss II (Carin); two step-sons, Anthony Downy and Richard Samuels (Crystal); and seven grandchildren, Matthew and Brittany French, Jonathan, Jordan, and Zachary Moss, Ashley Kress and Jacqueline Morgan. Bob loved hunting, fishing and spending time on his boat.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Yeocomico Episcopal Cemetery in Kinsale.
Carline Chatham Oliff
Carline Chatham Oliff, 65, of Newland, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. She was a retired cafeteria worker with the Westmoreland County Schools and a member of Edgewater United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley E. Oliff; mother, Learline C. Chatham of Tidwells; daughter, Faye O. Prichard (Stephen) of Ashland, Va.; sister, Darline C. Squires (George) of Tidwells; granddaughter, Meghan Kirkland (Jan); great-grandson, Jack Kirkland, her special nieces and nephews and a beloved aunt, Alice Sanford.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 10 at the Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel. Rev. Willard Bowen and Rev. Shayne Estes officiated. Interment was in Rappahannock Baptist Church Cemetery, Newland. Pallbearers were Glenn Morse, Norman France, Garnett Withers, George Squires Jr., William Ambrose, Bob Smith, Todd Oliff and Wallace McGinnes.

Marianne Fischer Parrow
Marianne Fischer Parrow, 81, formerly of Jamesville, N. Y. lost her battle with cancer and died peacefully in her home in Heathsville, Virginia with her daughters by her side on December 7, 2012.
In 2005, she settled in Heathsville where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Edgar Parrow. Surviving are three daughters, Theresa Parrow Botsford (Todd), Patricia Parrow McKenna and Suzanne Schucker (Russell); five grandchildren, Jennifer Snyder (Scott), Patrick McKenna, Jr., Maureen McKenna, Christopher Bucher and Jeffrey Bucher.
Graveside services will be held 3:30 p. m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Jamesville-Walnut Grove Cemetery, 6708 E. Seneca Tpke., Jamesville, N.Y., followed by a celebration of her life at the Elks Lodge (Liverpool Elks-B.P. O. E. 2348, 3730 Cold Springs, Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027).

Katherine Douglas “Kitty” Shirley
Mrs. Katherine Douglas “Kitty” Shirley, 95, of Heathsville, the daughter of the late William H. Douglas and Elizabeth J. Douglas of Kinsale, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012. She was the widow of Wellington Hill Shirley, Sr., a member of Coan Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary and Church Clerk, and was a retired postal clerk with 30 years of service at the Heathsville Post Office.
Survivors are her sons, W.H. Shirley, Jr. (Kay) of Callao and William D. “Bill” Shirley, Sr. (Susan) of Churchville; five grandchildren, Hill Shirley (Karen), Sarah S. Blackwell (Keith), Bris Shirley, Doug Shirley, Jr., and Rob Shirley (Sarah); four great-grandchildren, Tyler Shirley, Will Shirley, Katherine Shirley, and John Ward Shirley; soon to be born great grandson, Luke Shirley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, C. Nevitt Douglas, William H. “Buck” Douglas, C. Kaufman Douglas, and Lewis E. “Dutch” Douglas.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Coan Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Reverend Lee Farmer officiated.
