Six teams representing three areas of the Rappahannock River Youth Football League will compete for the coveted crown this weekend. Teams from Colonial Beach, Richmond County, Essex and Westmoreland will pack Colonial Beach High School’s football field seeking their respective 2012 League Superbowl Championships this Saturday.

On Nov. 10 at Colonial Beach, coaches and football players will suit up for their final games of the year.

Six teams representing three areas of the Rappahannock River Youth Football League will compete for the coveted crown this weekend.

The peewee teams from Essex and Colonial Beach will compete for their title at 10 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by the JV teams from Richmond County and Essex.

Colonial Beach and Westmoreland will square off for the final trophy at 12:30 p.m. to cap off the day.

“This league has paved the way this season for over 500 youth representing 7 localities: Fredericksburg, Colonial Beach, Westmoreland, Northumberland, Richmond County, Essex, and Caroline. The league emphasizes the teaching of fundamentals, sportsmanship, and opportunities for community involvement,” said league president Donnell S. Howard. “The leagues’ success as in the recent years has strongly been predicated on the dedication and the commitment of the parents and the coaches working in conjunction with the leagues’ commission.”

“The Rappahannock River Youth Football League is encouraging the communities to come out to witness and support the rising of some potentially future high school, collegiate, and professional players,” Howard added.

At Caroline High School in 2011, the Colonial Beach Peewee Team fell in the championship game to Richmond County, but have fought their way back to the Superbowl.

Richmond County sends back their JV team this year after falling shy of the superbowl title to Colonial Beach 14-12. But Essex looks to challenge Richmond County on Saturday for the crown.

Lastly, Colonial Beach and Westmoreland send their varsity teams to superbowl in a rematch of last year’s game. Both teams had their share of victories over one another, but it was Colonial Beach that won the championship 37-22.

Each game will follow with the presentation of the superbowl trophy.
