West, team look ahead to Friday
Rappahannock Varsity Football Coach William West was in a similar position this last season hosting the first round the Division 1 Eastern Sectional Playoffs.
In 2011, he and the Raiders fell short of making the next round. This year, they are hoping for a different outcome.
“We’re just getting ready for the next opponent. We started doing that as soon as the game was over on Saturday night,”said West. “Our new season started then. This is another part of us opening a chapter into the book and we’re getting ready to go into the regional playoffs undefeated.”
In Division 1, eighth seeded Rappahannock (6-4) will host ninth seeded Covington (5-5) on Nov. 9. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
If Rappahannock wins over Covington, they could have a rematch with top-seeded Franklin after a close and tough loss to them at home earlier in the season.
“One game at a time because we have to take care of the foe at hand first,” West said. “We have a fairly decent Covington team coming into to play and they do some things well…We feel like we can have some success on both sides of the ball, but we have to execute our game play to perfection.”
Also in Division 1, 11th seeded Lancaster (5-5) will travel to sixth seeded Colonial Beach (6-4) on Nov. 9 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Colonial Beach and Rappahannock finished the year as two of the top-ranked Division 1 teams in the state. Colonial Beach ended the year ranked 12th team followed by 15th ranked Rappahannock.
