Essex JV coach Renee Stevens said this is her first regular season championship in her three years coaching.
“It feels awesome. I’ve never been here before, it’s a new experience and the team is great,” said Stevens. “We’re both competitive [Rappahannock and Essex]. There was a lot of volleying going on, so it took a long time to get through the game because both teams are so competitive and talented.”
Rappahannock coach Logan Spruill said after her first season she was pleased with her girls play especially after a lot of them were playing for the first time.
“We did all we could do and hopefully we’ll get them next year,” said Spruill. “I’m sad to see some of girls leaving for the varsity…this year we had a lot tryout and hopefully we’ll have just as good as a turnout next year.”
