The closing of a longtime local business has opened a new door for one of its most dedicated employees as she embarks on a fresh journey: opening her own design store.
In an Oct. 1 interview, Cindy Lloyd, a former Nunnally’s employee of 26 years, announced the opening of her new store, Feather Your Nest, in the building formerly occupied by Courtney’s Jewelers.
“I am really excited,” Lloyd said. “I feel like this it is a good time and I certainly have had the support of Dianne [Thorn] and the group I worked with from Nunnally’s. Even my clients have been supportive.”
Lloyd, who has an interior design degree from Virginia Tech, will be selling window treatments, decorative accessories, tableware, vases and area rugs. She also plans to have one section of the store designated for new and consignment furniture.
However, she also plans on offering a unique twist to interior design.
“Birds gather random bits and pieces to make their nest and they form this beautiful form for themselves that is both attractive and functional and that is what we do in our home,” Lloyd said. “We collect things from our lives and my job as a designer is help take those elements and help make them beautiful and functional for your home.”
Lloyd said that too often, people will make an expensive purchase for their home and then later come to regret it when they realize it doesn’t suit them as well as they imagined.
Lloyd said that often by simply rearranging rooms and repurposing what is already in the home, clients are surprised with a more functional and aesthetically pleasing design without having to make big purchases.
“What I really want people to understand is that having a designer doesn’t mean it will break their bank and only reflect what the designer thinks,” Lloyd said. “It should be reflection of the client and their home.”
Lloyd said that she is currently remodeling the interior of the new store and will be making some exterior changes as well. She hopes to have the site ready for a grand opening the first week of November.
“This is going to be a great little store where you can find wonderful items for your home and get the best decorating advice at affordable prices,” she said.
She added that she hopes to make people feel as welcome when they enter her store as they did entering Nunnally’s.
She added that she was looking forward to opening a new business in a town that she is deeply committed to.
“I certainly believe in the town of Warsaw and its revitalization,” Lloyd said. “I live here and it has a lot going for it. This is going to be a fresh start and I am thrilled.”
For more information, Lloyd asks that people email her at cindylloydfeatheryournest@gmail.com or at 804-761-3715. She also plans on starting a Facebook page and website shortly.
“I look forward to seeing those who have entrusted me with their decorating needs and want to extend an invitation for everyone to come visit me in my new little shop,” Lloyd said.
