If you have a private water source, such as a well, spring or cistern, YOU are responsible for the safety of your family’s water quality and the maintenance of your supply system! The Essex Unit of Virginia Cooperative Extension is sponsoring a Household Well Water Quality Clinic for Essex County residents to provide them an opportunity to better understand well management and well water safety and to provide testing at a reduced rate.

Two Kick-Off meetings have been planned to provide general education on well management and well water safety.  The meetings will be held on July 21st at 7 p.m. and July 22nd at 10 a.m.  During the meetings, general information on well management and well water safety will be provided and sample kits will be distributed.  Participants need to attend only one these meetings.

The cost of the sample analysis is $49.00 per sample.  Comparable sample analysis at a private lab would be about $300.  Samples will be analyzed for Total coliform, E. coli, Nitrate, Fluoride, Sodium, Manganese, Copper, pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Sulfate, Hardness, Arsenic, Lead, and Quantification of bacteria.
