Northern Neck Rivermen off to strong start
The 2014 Northern Neck Rivermen
The Northern Neck Rivermen opened their semi-pro football schedule on Saturday, July 12 versus the Arbutus Big Red. The Rivermen play their home games at King George High School field; their games benefit the high school football team. Kicker Barrett Hollingsworth put his Rivermen on the scoreboard first with a 24yd field. The offense got their running and passing game clicking and moved the ball down the field, and Adeola Ogunwenmo capped the drive with a one yard touchdown run. Hollingsworth added another field goal, and Mike Howard darted across the goal line for a three yard touchdown. This put the Rivermen up 20-0 at the half. The defense finally gave up points when the Big Red scored a touchdown early in the third quarter. Adeola Ogunwenmo got to the end zone again in the third; followed by a two point conversion, Walt Covington to Josh Steele. The Rivermen were led on the defensive side of the ball by Dominic Fields with (9) tackles, Laslow Pickett (13), Devonte Reynolds (9), and Sid Thompson (10). They allowed a couple more scores, yet they held on to win 28-22.
