Walters

 

Robert Sidney Walters, Sr., born September 12, 1930, in Freeport, PA, left this world on June 2, 2014 to pursue his next adventure. He grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, but wore out the soles of his shoes on the Boardwalk in Colonial Beach, VA.  He served in the U.S. Navy in the 104th Seabee Battalion, where he continued to learn the family trade of Roadway Construction.  He went on to become a pioneer in the asphalt paving industry.  He was an aviator, a world traveler, a mentor to many, an entrepreneur with a quest for knowledge and desire to share it with all who would listen, and those who wouldn’t. He was a legend.

Beyond all of his professional accolades, his proudest accomplishments were his personal relationships with his family and dearest friends.  He was a family man and a fierce provider.  He is survived by the love of his life, Dottie Walters; his children, Susan Walters Pearson (Mike), Robin Walters Woodworth (Bruce), Robert Sidney Walters, Jr., (Kelly); grandchildren Niki Edwards, Cody and Logan Woodworth and Sidney Evans Walters, his great grandchildren, Brandon and Carmen; and Brad Reckert and Johnny Mitchell, who were like sons to him.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Hallie Walters, siblings Mary Reiter, John Walters and Katherine Walters, and his beloved canine companion Holly.

There will be a private family memorial service.  All expressions of sympathy are requested to be made to the Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad in memory of Robert Sidney Walters, Sr., at  225 Dennison Street, Colonial Beach, VA  22443.

 

Oakes

 

Robert Eugene Oakes, 53, of Montross, passed away May 30, 2014.  He was a carpenter for Eagle River Construction.  He is survived by his daughter, Bobbi Jean Oakes of Fredericksburg; sons Dakota Robert Oakes of Stafford; mother, Janice A. Eggers of Cross Road, TX; brother,  Jim Oakes of Orange; sister, Vickie Martin (John) of PA and grandson, Hunter Wayne Brooks.

A Celebration of Life will be held 5 to 7 p.m. at Back Draft Restaurant, Kinsale on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Davis, Robert

 

Robert Neal Davis II, 46, of Kinsale, passed away June 1, 2014.  He was a welder at Potomac Supply Corp. and a U.S. Army Reservist.   He is survived by his father, Robert N. Davis of Fredericksburg; special friend and companion, Tanya Trader; son, Matthew Hunter Davis of Warsaw; sisters, Laura Lynn Gordon (Rex) of Montross and Susan Michele Davis of Statesville, NC.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel with Pastor Wade Wilkins officiating.  Interment was at Yeocomico Episcopal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Stewart, Kevin Fischer, Freddie Hymes, Robert Gawen Jr., Page Westman and Johnny Thrift.

Marshall

 

Charlotte Bailey Marshall died May 10, 2014. She was born July 7, 1938 in Haynesville to Helen Elizabeth Bailey and Thomas Lee Bailey.

Charlotte attended Haynesville Elementary School and Richmond County High School.  She graduated Virginia State University with a major in Early Childhood Education.

Charlotte began her teaching career at Kilmarnock Elementary School before teaching at Richmond County Elementary School, later moving to Baltimore, Maryland where she taught for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Marshall; brother, James Andrew; nephews, Tyrone “Bumpsy” and Darnell and niece, Dawn.

Surviving are her mother, Helen E. Bailey of Haynesville; sister, Betty Dickson of Baltimore, MD; brothers Walter (Rose) of Haynesville, Lewis (Frances) of Callao, Raymond (Gloria) of Warsaw, Charles (Sherri) of Richmond and Ronald (Erica) of Tappahannock and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 17, 2014 at Lyells Chapel Baptist Church, Warsaw with interment in the church cemetery.

 

Scott

 

Ivan “Eugene” Scott, son of the late Elsie Marie and Joseph Scott, died May 1, 2014. He was born August 31, 1941 in Scott Town, Warsaw.

Eugene was educated in the public schools of Richmond County.

He worked many jobs from butchering, logging and driving tractor trailers for a large part of his life.

He later met his wife, Lynette Jessup and resided in Lancaster, Virginia; together he they raised Belanda.   While in Lancaster, Eugene had the opportunity to join and was baptized at the Church of Nazerne in White Stone, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Henry, William, Raymond, Albert and Ezekiel Scott and sisters, Marie Thompson, Helen Scott, Violet Ashton and Shirley Thompson.

Surviving are his wife, Lynette; two sisters, Hattie Gardner and Rachel Roane; stepchild, Belanda Jessup; three sisters-in-law, Leatrice Scott, Virginia Scott and Sherry Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 22, 2014, at the Berry O. Waddy Funeral Home.  Interment services were held privately.

Hall 

 

Oswald V. “Ozzie” Hall died May 24, 2014. He was born Feb. 18, 1944 to Myrtle and Samuel Hall Sr. in Folly, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cynthia and Yvonne and two brothers, Garrison Sr. and Gerville Hall.

After graduating Central High School, he relocated to Washington D.C. before joining the US Army, serving until 1966 and continuing with the Reserves until 1970.

He retired after 35 years as a pressman.

Surviving are his wife, Gerraldine Hall; his sons, Michael and Anthony Hall; a stepson, Jonnie; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Marian; three brothers, Kenneth Hall Sr, Samuel Hall Jr. and Joseph Hall and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 31 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Bryant officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Newsome

 

Elinor Dameron Newsome, 93, of Callao passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and had retired from the Virginia Elastic Company, Tappahannock.

Elinore was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius J. Newsome of 50 ½ years, and her daughter, Barbara Harper.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy N. Butler of Tappahannock, her son, Cornelius Carrington Newsome and wife, Carolyn; eight grandchildren, Ricky Loving, Johnny Loving, Karen Brooks (Ricky), Jeff Newsome, Terry Wilmore, Timmy Harper, Mike Harper, and David Harper, and 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren

The family received friends at Jones-Ash Funeral Home on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2 – 3 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be held at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Callao,VA.

Davis, Bernard

 

Bernard S. Davis, Jr. 73, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, June 06, 2014. He was the son of the late Bernard and Elsie Hall Davis, a member of Warsaw Baptist Church, a lifelong farmer and a foreman at Wood Preservers, retiring after 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy S. Davis; children, Lisa Williams (Brian) of King George; Melanie McDonald (Erik) of White Stone; Bernard “Trey” Davis (Mary) of Richmond; Tracie Mothershead (Marty) of Warsaw; Autie Julian Sprayberry (Cheryl) of Mechanicsville; Elizabeth Theriot of LA; Jamie Sgro (Nick) of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, Kristen Brewer, Justin Williams, Clayton and Anne Claire Davis, Jordan McDonald, Tyler and Trevor Mothershead, Nicholas and Connor Sgro, Austin (Kelly) and Thorn Gamblin, Kain and Dakota Theriot; one great-grandchild, Madison Roberts; brother and sister-in-law, Horace and Bertha Sanders of Warsaw; three nieces, Dixie Oliff and Paula Shipman, both of Warsaw and Gladys Stevens (Roy) of Mechanicsville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Cobham Park Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Pastor Donald Bowen officiated. Pallbearers were Billy Taylor, Leon Douglas, Art Sage, Dickie Brooks, Randy Packett, Leslie Sanders, Mark Scott and Allen Clarke.  Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 618 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560  or Cobham Park Cemetery Fund, P.O.
