John “Bert” Webb

 

John “Bert” Webb, 93, of Lottsburg passed away Monday, November 18, 2013. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a retired waterman, enjoyed crabbing and oystering, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Callao.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie H. Webb, and daughter, Patsy H. Bell.

He is survived by five daughters, Linda W. Fisher of Newport News, June W. Davis and her husband, George, of Lottsburg, Marian W. Self and her husband, Andrew, of Reedville, Becky H. Ramsey of Callao and Virginia H. Fulford and her husband, Ralph, of Callao; fourteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family received friends November 21, 2013 with a service following at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Heathsville. Burial followed at Bethany Baptist Church, Callao, Virginia.

Edwin Slater Rice Jr.

 

Edwin Slater Rice Jr. died peacefully at home in the arms of his wife of 46 years on November 14, 2013.

Mr. Rice was born January 8, 1936 at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond to Edwin Slater Sr. and Susie Edwards Rice of Fleeton.

He received his elementary education in Reedville and graduated from McDonogh School in Maryland.

A true patriot who deeply loved his God, his country, his family and friends, and his community, Mr. Rice served in the US Army 1958-1960. On October 21, 1967 he married Nancy Elaine Ham of Staunton. Mr. Rice was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville Masonic Lodge No. 321 and a life member and past president of Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department

Often recounting childhood days spent with his father, plant manager, at McNeal-Dodson (later AmiPro), Mr. Rice maintained an ardent interest in the menhaden fishing industry throughout his life. He was employed on fishing vessels in Reedville and in Louisiana and retired as captain of the AmiPro tugboat, Lois Kaye. He also retired from VDOT as bridge tender on old Tiper’s Bridge when it was replaced in 1993.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Edwin Slater Rice III, and his wife, Lori; four grandchildren, Edwin Slater Rice IV, Taylor Nichole Rice, Alexander Catesby Rice and Christopher Blake George; and many beloved cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces- and nephews-in-law and friends.

Funeral services were held on November 19, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church followed by graveside service and burial at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville

Paul Clinton Haynie

 

Paul Clinton Haynie, 73, of Fairport died Monday, November 18, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy E. Haynie; one daughter, Judy H. Swann of Kilmarnock; a granddaughter, Tara Swann of Kilmarnock; a grandson, Ryan M. Swann of Heathsville; a sister, Alma Conrad of Kilmarnock and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Haynie was a retired waterman and a member of the Virginia Watermen’s Association. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 21 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock with interment following in Roseland Cemetery, Reedville. Adam Randolph Walker

 

Adam Randolph Walker, 53, of Lottsburg, formerly of Fairfax, raised in Mt. Vernon, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Adam was the son of Jack and Vera Walker and a former construction safety officer for Clark Construction.

Survivors are his children, Hunter Randolph Walker and Kelly Kathryn Walker; his life partner, Cheryl Daneker Fisher; his wife, Kathy Tomaselli Walker; and his sister, Amanda Pruitt.

A Celebration of Life was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Callao Moose Family Center, 968 Northumberland Hwy., Callao, VA 22435.
