playoffs by defeating Colonial Beach, 21-8, Friday night in Warsaw.
Colonial Beach (5-6) ends its season after going 3-2 in the district, including a 10-0 win over Rappahannock on October 11.
The win sends Rappahannock (8-3) to Southampton County’s Franklin City next weekend where the Raiders will face the Broncos (10-1), who dispatched William Campbell, 50-8, Friday night.
With the expanded playoff format, 32 Division 1 schools made the playoffs statewide. An east/west breakdown will ultimately pit the best from each region in the state championship on December 14 in Salem. All six Northern Neck District teams made the playoffs, but three, Colonial Beach, Lancaster and Northumberland, were eliminated Friday night.
Rappahannock is seeded sixth among 16 teams in the east division. The Raiders’ three losses this season came in district games against Colonial Beach, Washington and Lee and Essex.
Franklin is seeded third in the east division. Rappahannock and Franklin have only one mutual opponent, Colonial Beach, who lost at Franklin, 41-22, on September 13. Franklin’s only loss this season came against a larger Division 2 opponent Brunswick, 28-6, on October 11.
