The price of Spice: One mother’s fight against a deadly drug

Sitting on a cold floor, Caroline cradled her son in her arms.

Tears flowing down her face, she looked down upon the pale body in her lap as a lifetime of memories crashed down upon her.

“I remembered the first time I held him, his first day of school when I put him on that bus and waved goodbye, all the birthdays and ballgames…everything,” Caroline said. “I was screaming and sobbing, asking God ‘Why my son?’ I thought he was dead and all I could do was holler over and over ‘Please don’t take my baby.”’

A single parent, Caroline, whose full name is not being used in order to protect herself and her family, has dedicated her life to ensuring that her children had everything they needed to become successful and contributing members of society.
