The Trojans’ (9-1, 5-0) five district wins included two shutouts (Northumberland and Colonial Beach) as Essex outscored their district opponents by a combined 202 to 34.

Only one team, Lancaster, scored in double figures against Essex, losing 51-18.

Washington and Lee provided the closest game, holding the Trojans to only two touchdowns in a 14-9 defensive nail-biter in Tappahannock on November 2.

The Division 1 Trojans lost only one game this season, a 40-37 overtime shootout with a larger Division 3 foe, James Monroe of Fredericksburg.  Monroe (6-4) is a solid Division 3 team, and is seeded fourth in the 3A East playoffs.

The victory over Rappahannock on Friday night helped seal the Trojans’ position as the top team among 16 in the 1A East Division.
