The Conference 43 Volleyball Tournament began on Tuesday for the first time highlighting all the teams in the Northern Neck and Rappahannock County High School. Set up in a single elimination, the opening round will have the top seeded Northumberland Lady Indians resting.
Across the Northern Neck and in Washington County, three games decided who would play in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 9, and send others home for the year. Pairings were decided based on power points collected by teams throughout the season.
On Nov. 5, seventh seeded Colonial Beach traveled to second seeded Rappahannock County for game three falling 3-0, fifth seeded Lancaster traveled to Rappahannock High in Warsaw for game one and defeated them 3-0 and sixth seeded Washington & Lee (W&L) traveled to Tappahannock and was dropped by the Lady Trojans in game two, 3-0.
Colonial Beach fell to Rappahannock County in a scrimmage before the regular season began to mark their second meeting. This will be the second Northern Neck team Rappahannock County has faced this season including W&L.
Rappahannock and Lancaster split wins this season with matches going no more than four sets, and Essex has defeated W&L all three meetings winning nine sets to one.
Colonial Beach, W&L and the defending region champion Rappahannock Raiders (Warsaw) are now eliminated from contending in any region or state playoff tournament.
The conference semifinals and finals will be held at Northumberland High School on Nov. 9. Admission price is $7.
Game four begins at 2 p.m. with the top seeded Northumberland versus fifth seeded Lancaster. Thirty minutes afterwards will be game five between second seeded Rappahannock County and third seeded Essex. The finals for the conference championship will be 60 minutes after game five between the winning teams of games four and five.
