Raiders extend winning streak
The Rappahannock Raiders Football Team improved their road record to 2-0 last Friday and to the delight of their fans remain undefeated after four games. Rappahannock made King & Queen their fourth victim of the season dropping a 55-0 score by the night on Sept. 27.
Rappahannock in previous games started out offensively strong to open the game with a score. Friday was no
different for visiting Raiders.
“I told my guys we need to start well and we need to do that every week,” Rappahannock Head Coach William West said.
The game could’ve been easily considered a win after the Raiders opened the first six minutes of the game with two touchdowns, four altogether in the first quarter.
Quarterback Ken Pierson led the team throwing for 72 yards and two touchdowns to Marquise Lanier for 32 yards and Jamal Fisher on a one-yard reception. Tevin Fisher followed throwing for 33 yards in the game.
Jarret Gordon tied Lanier with 32 yards receiving against King & Queen. Marcus Byrd followed with a reception for 18 yards and Tevin Fisher with one.
Romeo Jackson and Jaquan Thompson led the charge on the ground game. Jackson collected 97 on two carries to go along with two touchdowns and Thompson had 43 rushing yards on eight carries with one touchdown.
Tevin Fisher joined in the running game with 15 yards on two carries with a touchdown, Leroy Farmer with 11 yards on two carries, Byrd with two yards on a carry, CJ Newsome with three yards on a carry. Ryan Martin had three carries (-4), Dominique Fletcher had two (-2) and Pierson had one (-2).
Jackson was also a contributor on special teams recovering a fumble from King & Queen for a touchdown. Kicker Triston Sebra was 6-7 for extra point attempts.
“We’re very pleased with the W,” West said. “Our team came out and played hard and was able to get a lot of backups some reps and minutes.”
The Raiders next opponent, the Mathews Blue Devils, has challenged Rappahannock in years past. The Raiders will have an opportunity to face them again this Friday and extend their winning streak when they travel there on Oct. 4. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
