Mrs. Judith Mae Cardova

 

Mrs. Judith Mae Cardova, 70, of Warsaw, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013. She was a retired CNA at Warsaw Health Care and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church.

Survivors are her husband, John L. Cardova; son, Richard A. Barnes of Richmond; daughters, Wendy Barnes Hinton (Val) of Warsaw and Dolores Barnes Harris (Clyde) of Richmond; step sons, John L. Cardova, Jr of Mechanicsville, MD and James Cardova of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; step daughters, Carol Padgett of Waldorf, MD and Joy Cardova of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchild, Donte Owens; special uncle, Jim Coates (Dorothy) and aunt, Madeline Coates of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a son, Perry A. Barnes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Warsaw Baptist Church.

 

Evelyn Brooks Dawson

 

Evelyn Brooks Dawson, 72, of Tappahannock died Friday, September 6, 2013.  She was the widow of Walter Dennis Dawson and was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Brooks and Nellie Brooks Townsend and a sister, Irene Brooks.

Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, Sandra  Rogers and her husband Tom of Naylors Beach, Faye Johnson and her husband Wally of Dunnsville, Diane Oechsner and her husband Tim of Jacksonville, FL;  her sister, Jane Williams and husband, Pete of Loretto; her grandchildren, Ryan Wainwright and his wife Cara of Hampton, Ulric Rogers and his wife Katie of Naylors Beach, Kyle and Gavin Rogers of Tappahannock, Lauren Westerwelle and her husband Joey of Jacksonville, FL, five great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Connor Rogers,  Gary Wainwright, Riley and Zoey Westerwelle; her niece, Stacy Mundie and daughter, Madison; her nephew, Jamie Williams and daughters, Kayla and Miranda.

Funeral services were held Monday, in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock with the Dr. Robert C. McKinley officiating. Graveside services were held. Monday September 9, 2013 in the Essex Cemetery with the Reverend Chris Campbell officiating.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

 

Evelyn G. Smith

 

Evelyn Smith, formerly of Callao, VA,  went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 13, one day shy of her 97th birthday.  She was born Evelyn Gertrude Nichols in Tacoma Park on September 14, 1916, and grew up in Washington, D.C.

In 1965 she and her husband Edward A. Smith, and youngest son Dennis, moved to the Mundy Point area of Northumberland County to begin their retirement years.  Evelyn was a devoted member, and occasional pianist, at Gibeon Baptist Church in Village.

She is survived by her daughter Carol E. Foy of Christiansburg, VA, and sons Hervey H. Smith of Murrells Inlet, SC,  James E. Smith of Calhan, CO, and Dennis A. Smith of Blacksburg.

She was a faithful wife and loving mother, and a friend to everyone.  We love you, Mom.

 

Jeter R. Swift

 

Jeter R. Swift, 87, of Reedville passed away August 23, 2013. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of Tibitha Church of God, Reedville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura R. Swift

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Marsha A. Joyner and her husband Ed, of Florida; stepson, Reverend Vernon M. Allison Jr. and his wife Cathy of Ohio; five stepgrandchildren,  and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September, 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Tibitha Church of God, Reedville. Burial will be private at a later date.
