The Virginia Native Plant Society recently remembered the late Amy Wilson, honoring her with a park bench erected at the Old Courthouse Demonstration Garden in Heathsville. Jane Peterson, a longtime friend gave an oral tribute to Amy as well as Earline Walker who represented the Northern Neck Chapter of the society. Guests told stories involving Amy and her accomplishments in the Northern Neck. In addition to the bench, a purple heliotrope was added to the native plant garden. “Purple was Amy’s favorite color,” said Carol Hammer, past president of the chapter, who coordinated the remembrance.
Amy was a co-founder of the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society and an active member for several years. She, along with Reta Stover, helped design and sew the banner that is displayed at the meetings throughout the year. Amy and her dog Peter were a familiar sight together as they greeted members at the general meetings.
The public is welcome to visit the garden at any time.
