Church League Softball playoffs begin July 26.

 

In preparation for their 14th year of girls fastpitch softball, the Northern Neck Rage will conduct tryouts for girls ages 8 – 16 at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw on July 28 at 3 p.m. and Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m.  A third tryout date at Dreamfields in Kilmarnock will take place on Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. Parents need to pre-register their player on the Rage website www.northernneckrage.com.  For more information, call (804) 761-8002 or email info@northernneckrage.com.      

 

Washington & Lee High School Football practices begin July 31 at 6 p.m. with three days of The Eagle Football Camp. More information about volleyball, cross country, and cheer tryouts coming soon.

 

Colonial Beach High School Students that want to participate in any fall sport must have a physical before tryouts.  Football will start Aug. 1 at 5 p.m.  Volleyball tryouts are Aug. 5 and Cheer tryouts are July 29 and 30 from 5-7 p.m.  You will not be allowed to try out if you have not had your physical.

 

Rappahannock High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Football will begin practices on Aug. 1. Practices will be held at the Field House from 5:30-8 p.m. Players should wear athletic shorts, a light T-shirt and football cleats. All students must have a current physical form before being able to participate. Equipment will be distributed on July 30 and 31 from 6-8 p.m. All questions should be directed to the athletic department at 333-5386.

 

The Westmoreland Youth Association will host its First Annual Bike Fest at Washington & Lee High School in Montross on Aug. 3 from 12-5 p.m. Early Bird Registration is $15 and price will increase on the day of the event to $25. Vendors are welcome for a spot at $20. Call 804-450-3662 to register.

 

At the Oct. 18 football game against Lancaster, 10 individuals including two contributors that will be inducted into the Rappahannock High School Sports Hall of Fame. Retired coach, principal and superintendent Fred Pitman highlights the inductees along with the first school division superintendent, the late Jim Stover.

The 10 individuals to be inducted include Brian Wilkins (1982), Stanley Sanders (1969), Nancy Wilson (1977), Erica Carey (1982), Danny Pierson (1976), Jack Walker (1981), Sally Smith (1974), Susan Powell Headley (1976), Otis Jackson (1976) and Rocky Newton (1974). Those that were selected in this year’s hall of fame class are encouraged to contact 804-761-6919. Considerations for feature articles leading up to the induction ceremony may be emailed to nnnsports@lcs.net. Include a name and contact information.

The Northumberland High School Athletic Booster Club is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2012-2013 season. This year the Boosters are offering 10 different membership options, in hopes to accommodate a wide range of students, parents and community members. All those interested in joining or renewing their membership for the 2013-2014 season should contact Michael Stevenson (mstevenson1@nucps.net) at Northumberland High School.

 

The Rappahannock Raiders Booster Club is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2013-2014 season. The Boosters are offering a variety of different membership options (at reduced rates if purchased prior to June 30, 2013) in hopes of accommodating a wide range of students, parents, and community members. All those interested in joining for the 2013-2014 season should contact Jan Tatarka (jtatarka@richmond-county.k12.va.us) at Rappahannock High School

 

Are you interested in running Cross Country?  Official Washington & Lee High School Cross Country practice will begin August 5th.  It is open to any rising 8th thru 12th graders.  We will start with a parent informational meeting at 5:30pm at W&L and runners will start at 6:00pm.  You WILL need a VHSL physical before you run.  Get one now.  Practice will be held every week night starting August 6th at 7:00 at the high school.  Our first meet is the first week of September,  so don’t put off getting that physical.  Montross Middle schoolers who are interested in running can join the MMS intramural team.  You also are encouraged to bring your parents to the meeting on August 5th at W&L where you will receive more information.  Again, you must have a physical before you can run whether jv, varsity or intramural.  This is an exciting year to start running, we are entering our first season as the Rappahannock River Conference in the newly reorganized VHSL divisions.  Come on out and join us!   If needed, you can contact Coach Vanover at 804-761-3062 or Coach Flickinger at 804-456-2149.
