Second-year volleyball coach Woody Campbell was pleased with his team for reaching the state quarterfinals last season. It was a feat that had never been met by any Rappahannock High Team or himself.
This was enough motivation for him to enlist the help of Matchpoint Club Volleyball to help his ladies prepare for next season and beyond.
“I felt like they needed extra help,” Campbell said. “I’m the first to admit I don’t know all volleyball, but we’re willing to learn, so this is exactly what we needed.”
Campbell said the girls learned a lot heading into the last day including senior Hallie Berger.
“Just with the fundamentals they have taught us and how to move together as a team, it’s been really good,” Berger said, adding that she benefited from the leadership instruction as well.
Instructors Jessica Brasington and Kirstan Arnold were excited the group they worked with last week.
“These girls will stick to something until we get it right because they are that good,” Brasington said. “They’re prepared, they’re ready, they’re willing to listen and willing to do it right. I love the girls and this has been my favorite camp so far.”
Arnold, who is a rising junior at Virginia Intermont College, was motivated by the girls to improve on her skills in volleyball following camp.
“It makes me want to go back to school and get in the gym, start working out, start being a better volleyball player as I can be because they’re working hard,” Arnold said.
